Project KICKSTAND Bike Event

TIPL ASSISTS WITH CHILDREN’S BIKE EVENT AS A PART OF FAITH CLIMATE ACTION WEEK

Project Kickstand Event
Bike safety lecture

On Saturday April 30, 2022, more than 30 children from Sam E. Hill Primary School in Knoxville learned about bike safety. Each child then had the opportunity to pick out an appropriately sized bike and helmet.  Organized by Kickstand, volunteers gave riding lessons, safety lessons, fitted helmets and fitted bikes to students selected from each class.  Principal Wendy Laman introduced the families to the volunteers and organized the very excited children.

Volunteers from CMC Steel Tennessee provided drinks, pizza, and other goodies for participants.  Safety City volunteers brought helmets and provided safety instruction while Centro Hispano helped out with translations.  Other organizations, including Two Bikes, Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light and Thrive Ministries, provided bikes, smiling volunteers and support.

It was hard to say whether the volunteers or the kids had more fun.

Helmets are an important part of bike ownership.  Safety City and Kickstand made sure that there were helmets for each child receiving a bike.
Pizza, drinks and wonderful volunteers from CMC!
It was so helpful to have translation available from Centro Hispano!
