Battlefield Farms and Keep Knoxville Beautiful hosted a work day Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Boyds Bridge Pike garden in Knoxville.
Pastor Chris Battle, the founder of Battlefield Farms, had a fair-sized list of tasks for the enthusiastic workers.
Alanna McKissack, Executive Director of Keep Knoxville Beautiful, did a great job recruiting vans full of University of Tennessee students and others (including Courtney Shea of the Knoxville Area Chapter of Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light) to work on fences, move mulch and soil, and pick-up litter.
We powered through spreading mulch and adding soil to the raised beds (although we did some damage to Pastor Battle’s potato buckets). The back fence was laid out and erected, bags of litter picked up from the street area. Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light helped with the purchase of this property and we hope that we can continue to support Battlefield Farm and the East Side Farmers’ Market in the upcoming year.
