Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light sponsored three showings of the sponsored movie, Common Ground. As always, we appreciate this resource! Common Ground was shown in Nashville, at The Temple to a crowd of about 50. The discussion was animated, particularly about the importance of the Federal Farm Bill, lots of new information for the audience. A group in Chattanooga also viewed it and they want to see it again as they know of others interested in the film. In Knoxville, Common Ground, was shown at Tennessee Valley UUC, to about 25 folks. Great discussion which included a suggested follow up discussion of some of the film’s recommendations with someone from the University of Tennessee Extension Service to learn about which of the film’s recommendations would be applicable to our area. Follow-up is being planned!
The Garden Blessing from IPL was praised and used in both Knoxville and Nashville. We had a wonderful Garden Blessing at Battlefield Farm, Knoxville, an inner city garden developed to make fresh food available to one of the poorest zip codes in the state, on April 27. What an appropriate way to celebrate the work addressing food insecurity.
On April 20, Bell Garden in Bellevue was the site of a blessing. The mission of Bell Garden is to focus on building healthier communities through education, volunteerism, and food distribution.
We didn’t stop there! In addition to individuals and houses of worship using IPL resources, in Clarksville, TIPL sponsored a Climate Vigil.
Nashville has a widely attended Earth Day Celebration in Centennial Park in which TIPL participated. On Sunday April 21, environmental groups including Knoxville Area Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light tabled at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, between and after services.
